This is interesting…seems our American cousins in some states aren’t as regressive in their thinking as some might think.

Ante up! SC judge rules Texas Hold ‘em is a skill

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina judge has ruled that Texas Hold ‘em poker is a game of skill, a ruling that could prevent police from arresting people taking part in a friendly game of poker.

Thankfully, we in the UK  don’t have that problem, historically, ‘illegal’ gambling was virtually ignored. Today if people want to have a game of cards or texas Holdem in their own homes, then it simply isn’t an issue.

In fact up until 2005, the law up  had this to say…

Poker is a card game involving chance and skill and is therefore classed as gaming under the Gaming Act 1968 (the “Act”). This Act governs gaming in the UK. Any violation of the Act could result in every person involved in the organisation of the offending game being found guilty of an offence. As such, each individual could be found liable on summary conviction and face imprisonment and/or a fine.

This has since been changed and the full details can be found here
